Education for Africa

Last year i was foruntate enough to visit Kenya and Tanzania. Before we left, we were told to take pencils so that we could hand them out to children when we were there. I invested £3 in 150 pencils and the impact of handing over a pencil to a child was a life changing experience. Our van had broken down and my wife handed over 2 pencils to a passing child. He stood with his head bowed in front of us because he was so overcome with thanks for what he had just received. It had cost only 4 pence to make that childs month.

Since returning to the UK, i was determined to set up communication with a school and start supplying the school directly. Through contact with the Masai Heritage Foundation i set up communication with Memusi School and Ann Mbarye.

In February 2007, Memusi school was ready to close. Pencils cost 25p each to Memusi and therefore it was not financially viable to continue running the school. Since the start of 2007 with support from my family and friends, we have supported Memusi directly with school equipment and stationary. The school has now started to grow.
